Quotes About Torchwood vs. Real Life

I described Torchwood to a retired civil servant yesterday, telling her about the Head Office with over 800 people and the Rural Outpost with 5.  She laughed in recognition, "27,000 people for the Main Office, and everywhere else 1 person for 27,000 people.  That sounds familiar."

Eandh left this wonderful quote on the OG forum, ""Having worked in and around some of these high-stress professions -- police, prosecutors office etc, I'd said TW if anything downplays office romances and extra-curricular sex. No one's been caught having sex on a desk yet at TW, no one's supporting children by 2 different women while still married to a third, no one's swapped partners."

(ETA:  Or sold homemade porn videos over the internet, as the FBI caught the local cops doing.)

So, do I find Torchwood unrealistic?
Only because it seems tamer and not as dark as Real Life.

Hee! I said something to the same effect Friday at work!

And Torchwood does a good job at that.

I'll agree with that. Torchwood is fairly tame really. Day One was a wee bit shocking but nothing more.

If they had anyone on the team get pregnant it would probably be Jack, and he'd probably abort it just to make the show 'edgier' XD

I disagree - I think Owen is far more likely to impregnant someone. Jack would not be that heartless Owen could be unless Jack didn't intend to sleep with someone and it just happened - I could see that happening.

I can't imagine sending out Time Agents without temporarily "fixing" them first, simply so the Agents don't have to worry about it.

And most shows are tamer than Torchwood. I wonder why.

Because if they put in everything real life demands of pressure-cooker working environments, every minute of every episode would be made up of rows, reconciliations, back-stabbing and sex. We'd never see an alien at all! ;)

You mean that's not what happened? XD

Well, there were Weevils as well. ;)

So overall pretty authentic! (And this is what Torchwood Three manages with 5 people. Imagine what went on in the Torchwood Tower?! It's amazing they ever found time to run the Ghost Shift.)

No wonder only 800 people needed such a huge building. There must have been floors of 'liaison suites' :)

That's what the plastic-curtained construction areas were for.

Construction. That's a new euphemism.

Would that make Jack a 'master builder'? ;-)

It all involves erections, right?

Mastery is the name of the game. Whatever game.

Well, not always - ask Tosh and Mary...

Couldn't the alien get involved in the rows, reconciliations, back-stabbing and sex?

"Carys?" "Mary?" Bilis? And that's excluding the tech!

Of course!

Did the emotion-viewer in "Ghost Machine" only deal with fear? If it could be reset to different emotions - and I suspect it could - just think of the possibilities!

Gwen pulled up happy-memories at her flat, so no. But fear is a strong emotion that's easy to pick up. Of course, it's not the only strong emotion....

My case rests!

The thing could be a porn-viewer, and it just happens that the last alien to use it had a kink for fear.

Heh, regarding the 'sex on a desk', I'm sure that Jack and Ianto make sure there's nobody around

And the homemade porn videos...heh, well if Jack and Ianto weren't careful, I'm sure that Tosh could have lifted plenty of goodies off the security monitors
